About Schizophrenia

My mom is now (and has been for about 2 years as of this writing) in a great assisted-living facility where she has an active social life and her dog, Baby (and new addition, pound-pup Cinder). She has regained her sense of humor and most of her cognitive skills, has resumed reading and dancing and doing things that she enjoys. She is still sometimes lonely. There are times when she is anxious and her symptoms flair up. She will always have schizophrenia and I will always have a mother with schizophrenia, but I wouldn't change it now if I could. It has made me a better, stronger, more compassionate person. It took a while to get to that point. Growing up we made each other's lives hell. Now we talk to each other once a week, and my love and appreciation for her strength, perservance and humor continues to grow.
